Supination Orthotics:

Ultimate Supination Relief: Our therapeutic, custom orthotics are precision-engineered to compensate for the extreme rigidity and poor shock absorption common with supination. These are not simply generic insoles; each device is custom-made from a precise mold of your foot to provide crucial cushioning and flexibility, improving force distribution and preventing excessive ankle or lateral knee stress, and come with a Bilt labs warranty and guarantee.

Precision Correction

The key to treating supination is providing a balance of motion control and superior cushioning where the foot strikes the ground (the lateral edge). Our custom design includes features to help the rigid foot absorb impact more effectively and encourages a gentle, healthy degree of pronation. This greatly reduces the stress that travels up the leg, helping alleviate pain in the ankles, shins, and knees.

Unparalleled Performance

Built from your unique foot mold and detailed health information, we guarantee a truly precise fit that mass-produced supports cannot match. Choosing Bilt Labs is choosing a durable, evidence-based therapy that offers reliable support and improves gait alignment for long-term comfort and mobility. Backed by our lifetime shell warranty.

Understanding The Condition

What is Supination?

The Pathomechanics of Outward Rolling

Supination (also known as underpronation) occurs when the foot rolls outward excessively as you step. This puts immense pressure on the lateral (outer) edge of the foot and the smaller toes.

Because the foot doesn't roll inward enough to absorb shock naturally, impact forces are transmitted directly up the leg. This rigid locking of the foot often leads to ankle instability, stress fractures, and knee pain.

Common Symptoms:

  • Frequent ankle sprains or feeling of instability.
  • Pain on the outer edge of the foot or heel.
  • Shin splints and IT Band Syndrome (outer knee pain).
  • Calluses on the outer edge of the foot.

Fast Facts

  • Prevalence: Less common than flat feet but often more painful.
  • Risk: High arches (Cavus foot) are the #1 cause.
  • Correction: Lateral wedging pushes the foot back to neutral.

Background

Treating the Root Cause of Supination

The Problem

Outward Rolling

Generic insoles usually focus on arch support for flat feet. They often make supination worse by pushing the foot even further outward. They lack the specific lateral wedging needed to stabilize a high arch.

Result: Continued ankle instability and shock impact.
The Bilt Solution

Lateral Stability

Bilt Labs custom orthotics are designed with a lateral post (wedge) that sits under the outside of the heel. This gently tilts your foot back inward to a neutral position, preventing the outward roll.

Frequently Asked Questions

Supination Relief

Can orthotics fix supination?
Yes. Custom orthotics are one of the few effective ways to manage supination. By using a lateral post or wedge on the outside of the foot, the orthotic mechanically tilts the foot back towards a neutral position, preventing the outward roll that strains your ankles and knees.
Do I need firm or soft support?
Supinators often have rigid high arches that don't absorb shock well. Therefore, you need a balance: firm structural support on the outside to stop the rolling, combined with shock-absorbing materials to cushion impact. Generic soft insoles won't provide the necessary stability.
Will this help with ankle sprains?
Yes. Chronic ankle sprains are a common symptom of supination because the foot is constantly teetering on the outside edge. By widening the base of support and stabilizing the heel with a custom orthotic, we significantly reduce the risk of rolling your ankle.

Product & Service

How long does it take to receive my custom orthotics?
Once you place your order, we ship out your foot mold impression kit within 1-2 business days. After we receive your molds back at our lab, we design, build, and ship your custom orthotics within 21 business days.
Are these truly custom, medical-grade orthotics?
Yes. These are not "heat-moldable" or "shelf" insoles. They are custom-fabricated from a physical mold of your foot using the same medical-grade polymers and EVA foams we supply to podiatry clinics. Nothing is pre-made or off-the-shelf.
Do you take insurance or FSA/HSA?
We are approved and set up to accept insurance FSA/HSA cards directly at checkout. We can also send a detailed invoice for reimbursement. However, we do not bill insurance companies directly as that typically requires an in-person office visit.
How long will my custom orthotics last?
Bilt Labs custom orthotics typically last a minimum of 2-3 years. The orthotic shell itself often lasts longer (and has a lifetime warranty against breaking), but the top covers may show wear and can be refurbished.
What is your return/refund policy?
We offer a full 6-month trial period. If you are not fully happy with your orthotics by that time, you can return them for a full refund. We also offer 2 free adjustments during this period to ensure the fit is perfect.
Where are my orthotics made?
Your new custom orthotics are made in the United States. We are located in the Houston, Texas area. All fabrications, designs, and finishing are performed by experts right here in our Houston lab.
What is your warranty/guarantee policy?
Your orthotics include a Lifetime Warranty on the plastic orthotic shell against breaking or cracking. This does not include the top cover material, as that is a consumable item that naturally wears with use.
